The Birthday Party, the 4th exhibition by Jay Staples and Stephen Brameld. A series of paintings that depict the ritual of a suburban birthday party.
Visions of song, decoration and celebration sit alongside in-fighting, mess and sodden chips. Concrete pavers evaporate shadows, the pool water forms a slick. The bottoms of feet burn.
The paintings and assemblages are a melodrama of distorted recollections. Jay and Stephen invite the viewer to be guests at the party.
